With around 1500 inhabitants, Lenakel is the largest city in the Tafea province of the South Pacific island state of Vanuatu .
geography
The place is on the west coast of the main island of the province of Tanna , which is one of the New Hebrides . Lenakel is the main town of the island, but the provincial capital is Isangel , located about two kilometers south-east inland . Tanna is also the main island of the province, but Tafea's largest island in terms of area is Erromango , whose total population, however, with less than 2000 inhabitants, hardly exceeds that of Lenakel.

The Catholic school of Lowanatom, the Collège Technique et Lycée de Lowanatom, is two kilometers north of the village . Whitegrass Airport is about ten kilometers away.
