Lenka Kripac (born March 19, 1978 in Bega , New South Wales ), stage name Lenka , is an Australian singer living in the USA .
Life
In 1978 Lenka Křipač was born in New South Wales to a Czechoslovak father and an Australian mother . When she was seven years old, the family moved to Sydney . Lenka went to school there and took acting lessons at the Australian Theater for Young People , including with Cate Blanchett . This training enabled her to make several appearances in theater, television ( Spellbinder - Caught in the Past ) and in independent films . Lenka is married to the artist James Gulliver Hancock and has had a son since March 2012. Her husband is also a partner in her artistic work. He works as the designer of their record covers and video appearances. She lives and commutes between Sydney, New York and Los Angeles .
Lenka Kripac played with the electro rock band Decoder Ring as a singer and keyboard player, with whom she recorded the album Somersault as the soundtrack for the film of the same name. In 2007 they separated after three years.
Kripac decided to pursue a solo career and moved to Los Angeles in 2007, where she was signed to the US label Epic Records ( Sony BMG ). In 2008 she released her solo debut album of the same name in the USA under her stage name Lenka , which was also released in Europe the following year. With the song The Show she had her first big hit in England and in German-speaking countries.
At the SWR3 New Pop Festival in September 2009, Lenka gave a concert in the Baden-Baden Theater . On the album Atemlos by Christopher von Deylens Projekt Schiller , Lenka lent her voice to two songs ( Addicted and Sunrise ).
In 2012, Lenka achieved her greatest success in Germany to date with her single Everything at Once from her second album Two . The song gained additional notoriety through a commercial by the software company Microsoft for the launch of Windows 8 .
In May 2015, Lenka released her fourth album The Bright Side and in October 2017 her fifth album Attune.
