Lennart Gruvstedt

Lennart Gruvstedt (* 1955 in Ystad ) is a Swedish jazz and classical musician ( percussion ).

Gruvstedt received his training from Bent Lylloff and Ed Thigpen at the Malmö Music Academy . In 1969 the first recordings were made in Copenhagen with Phil Woods and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen . He has been a member of the Malmö Percussion Ensemble since it was founded in 1975 . With this formation, which was one of the first percussion orchestras in Sweden, he toured extensively through Europe and the USA. The ensemble has made a number of vinyl and radio recordings.

Gruvstedt lived in Copenhagen for many years, where he worked as an orchestral musician in the Royal Chapel from 1977-78 . From 1978 to 1990 he was a member of the Danish Radio Big Band . In addition, he was able to work extensively as a drummer, for example in the quintet by Anders Bergcrantz ( Opinions ) and in the Tolvan Big Band , with which several albums were created; with Miles Davis he can be heard on his album Aura , with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on his album The Eternal Traveler . In 1998 he recorded the album Trio Music in a trio with Niels Thybo and Bo Stief , which became known as the "box killer" due to its dynamic drum solos. In the field of jazz he was involved in 58 recording sessions between 1969 and 2013, among others with Ole Kock Hansen , Nils Lindberg , Allan Botschinsky , Bengt-Arne Wallin / Nils Landgren , Wolfgang Schlüter , Inga Rumpf and Niels Thybo. Since 1980 he has also taught as a drum teacher at the Malmö Music Academy.

Gruvstedt received a grant from the Egil Johansens Minne Foundation in 2001.
