Leo Rajendram Antony

Leo Rajendram Antony (born April 18, 1927 in Karamban , † December 3, 2012 in Trincomalee , Sri Lanka ) was Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa .

Life

Leo Antony entered St. Martin's Minor Seminary in Jaffna on January 8, 1940, at the age of 13 ; In 1948 in the St. Bernard Seminary in Borella, Colombo. He studied theology and philosophy at the Collegio urbano de Propaganda Fide in Rome. The secretary of the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide , Pietro Sigismondi , ordained him on December 7, 1954 in Rome as a priest of the diocese of Jaffna . After serving as a pastor, he became Personal Secretary to Ignatius Glennie SJ, Bishop of Trincomalee in 1958. In 1962 he was appointed spiritual director of the Rosarians in Tholagatty and pastor of Vasavilan. In 1966 he took over the parish of St. Mary's Cathedral in Jaffna.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on August 3, 1968 titular bishop of Fissiana and auxiliary bishop in Jaffna . The Bishop of Jaffna, Jerome Emilianus Pillai OMI , donated him episcopal ordination on November 21, 1968 ; Co- consecrators were Ignatius Glennie SJ, Bishop of Trincomalee, and Frank Marcus Fernando , Coadjutor Bishop of Chilaw .

On December 18, 1972, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa. With the retirement of Ignatius Glennie SJ on 15 February 1974, he succeeded as Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa. On March 17, 1983, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
