Joseph Kingsley Swampillai

Joseph Kingsley Swampillai (born December 9, 1936 in Kayts ) is a Sri Lankan minister and bishop emeritus of Trincomalee .

Life

Joseph Kingsley Swampillai was ordained a priest on December 20, 1961 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa on March 17, 1983 . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Agnelo Rossi , ordained him episcopal on May 7th of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, and Adam Kozłowiecki SJ , Senior Archbishop of Lusaka .

He remained Bishop of Trincomalee after the Batticaloa Diocese was spun off in 2012.

On June 3, 2015, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation. Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the vacant Diocese of Mannar on January 14, 2016 .
