The Bistum Trincomalee ( lat. : Dioecesis Trincomaliensis ) is in Sri Lanka preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Trincomalee .

history

The diocese of Trincomalee was on August 25, 1893 by Pope Leo XIII. built from cessions of territory by the Archdiocese of Colombo and the Diocese of Jaffna . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Colombo as a suffragan . On October 23, 1967, the Diocese of Trincomalee was renamed the Diocese of Trincomalee-Batticaloa . The Diocese of Trincomalee-Batticaloa gave on December 19, 1975 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Anuradhapura . On July 3, 2012, the diocese was divided into the dioceses of Trincomalee and Batticaloa .
