The Bistum Kandy ( lat. : Dioecesis Kandiensis ) is in Sri Lanka preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Kandy .

history

The diocese of Kandy was on April 20, 1883 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Colombo as the Apostolic Vicariate of Kandy .

On September 1, 1886, the Apostolic Vicariate Kandy was by Leo XIII. raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Colombo as a suffragan . The diocese of Kandy gave up on December 18, 1972 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Badulla .
