The Bistum Anuradhapura ( lat. : Dioecesis Anuradhapurensis ) is in Sri Lanka preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Anuradhapura . It includes the north-central province .

history

The diocese Anuradhapura was on December 19, 1975 by Pope Paul VI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Iussum Christi from cessions of territory from the dioceses of Jaffna and Trincomalee-Batticaloa as the Apostolic Prefecture of Anuradhapura .

On March 18, 1982, the Apostolic Prefecture of Anuradhapura was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Qui idem and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Colombo as a suffragan .
