Leon Schots

Leon Schots (born June 11, 1952 ) is a former Belgian medium and long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in cross-country running .

At the first edition of the World Cross Country Championships in 1973, he won the bronze medal in the junior race. In 1975 he became world champion in the adult category and won team gold with the Belgian team. After a fifth place in 1979, he was fourth in 1980 and won bronze with the team. At his last start in 1982 he came in 109th place.

Schots won numerous national championship titles: over 1500 meters in 1974 and 1975, over 5000 meters in 1974, 1975 and 1978, over 10,000 meters in 1978, 1979 and 1982 as well as in cross country 1979, 1982 and 1983.

Leon Schots is 1.82 m tall and weighed 66 kg at competition times. The athlete from Halen now lives in Zoutleeuw .
