Leonard James Wall

Leonard James Wall (born September 27, 1924 in Windsor , Ontario , † March 5, 2002 in Toronto ) was Archbishop of Winnipeg .

Life

Leonard Wall was ordained a priest on June 11, 1949 . The Archbishop of Toronto James Charles Cardinal McGuigan appointed him his secretary in 1951. In 1954 Wall became a professor at the Augustinian Seminary in Toronto, which he remained until 1969. From 1964 he was also Vice Rector. He also performed numerous other duties in the ward, particularly education and mission. In 1969 he became Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Pope John Paul II named Wall auxiliary bishop in Toronto on May 3, 1979 and titular bishop of Leptiminus . He was ordained episcopal on June 21 of the same year by Gerald Emmett Carter , Archbishop of Toronto, who was appointed cardinal only a few days later . Co- consecrators were Philip Francis Pocock , Archbishop Emeritus of Toronto, and Aloysius Matthew Ambrozic , Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto. On February 25, 1992, John Paul II finally appointed him Archbishop of Winnipeg. Wall became the first chancellor of St. Paul's College, University of Manitoba. In 1998 he received the Caritas Award for his previous engagement in the Archdiocese of Toronto . On June 7, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Wall then returned to Toronto. He moved to the Augustinian Seminary, where he used to be a professor. He died there in March 2002 at the age of 77.
