Leonardo Alberto Fernández (born January 13, 1974 in Avellaneda ) is a former Bolivian football player who comes from Argentina. The goalkeeper was a Bolivian international .

He started his career with the Argentinos Juniors and Defensores de Belgrano . In 1997 he moved to Oriente Petrolero in Bolivia. With the club he reached the second round of the 1997 Copa Libertadores . At the Copa Libertadores 1998 Oriente was eliminated in the group stage. In 2000 he went back to Argentina to join Independiente . After a brief interlude at the Spanish second division club FC Extremadura , he was at Unión de Santa Fe . In 2002 he moved back to Oriente Petrolero, with whom he was eliminated from the group stage of the 2003 Copa Libertadores . In 2004 he played for the Chacarita Juniors and again Oriente Petrolero.

In 2005 he moved to Atlético Nacional , with whom he became Colombian champion. He then worked for Tiro Federal (Argentina), Palestino (Chile) and Aucas (Ecuador) before returning to Oriente Petrolero in 2007. However, after a positive doping test , he was banned for two years. After his suspension, he was with Real Mamoré and La Paz FC in 2009 . With La Paz he took part in the Copa Sudamericana 2009 , where they were eliminated in the first round.

Fernández was appointed to the Bolivian national team 17 times between 2003 and 2005 and took part in the 2004 Copa America with Bolivia .
