Leonhard Blumer (politician)

Leonhard Blumer (born May 28, 1844 in Engi ; † October 21, 1905 there ; authorized to live there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician .

Blumer completed a commercial apprenticeship in Lausanne . He owned the L. Brunner & Co. weaving mill in Sernftal and other textile companies. From 1869 until the end of his life he was in the district administrator of the Canton of Glarus , which he presided over in 1891 and 1900. From 1893 he was also on the Council of States . He was the main initiator of the founding of the Sernftalbahn, which opened in 1905, and presided over the initiative committee in 1889. When the opening ceremony took place, he was seriously ill. The special train stopped in front of his house and Landammann Eduard Blumer expressed his thanks.
