Eduard Blumer
Eduard Blumer (born February 10, 1848 in Thon, Schwanden municipality , † October 7, 1925 in Schwanden) was a Swiss politician . He was a member of the Democratic Party of the Canton of Glarus .
biography
Blumer came from an entrepreneurial family in the textile industry, completed a commercial apprenticeship and initially worked full-time in the family business.
At the age of 24 he was elected to the district administrator. With his brother-in-law he founded the newspaper "Freie Glarner". The main concerns of the politician were the cantonal constitutional reform, the adoption of the federal factory law (implemented in 1877), the establishment of the Glarner Kantonalbank (implemented in 1883) and the establishment of the cantonal hospital (implemented in 1888). From 1877 to 1888 he was on the Council of States . From 1888 until the end of his life, he served as Landammann and was thus the highest chief of administration in the Canton of Glarus. From 1899 he was in the National Council and in 1902 a candidate for the Federal Council election , although he did not represent any party at the federal level.
Although Blumer was a respected Landammann, politicians increasingly expressed the desire to limit the term of office. Attempts were also made to depose him. Shortly afterwards he succumbed to a stroke .
