Leonhard Lentz

Leonhard Lentz (born January 23, 1813 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † September 10, 1887 ibid) was a German classical philologist, naturalist and high school teacher in East Prussia's provincial capital.

Life

Lentz studied at the University of Königsberg Philology . In the winter semester of 1830/31 he and Ferdinand Gregorovius became a member of the newly founded Corps Masovia . After he had passed the exam pro facultate docendi , he taught at the Kneiphöfschen Gymnasium from Easter 1835 . After a good 41 years of uninterrupted activity, most recently as 1st senior teacher , he retired on October 1, 1876. He bequeathed 1,000 of the retirement pension of 3,289.50 marks to the magistrate . Every year on his birthday a poor and promising student should be able to attend the demanding school from the interest . In his eleven-year retirement, Lentz devoted himself even more to classical studies and natural history than before .
