Leonhard Sattler (born May 21, 1676 in Altstädten in Allgäu ; † October 17, 1744 in St. Florian , Upper Austria ) was a baroque sculptor who worked as a monastery sculptor in St. Florian .

Life

Stfitsportal, St. Florian

Leonhard Sattler was born as the son of Leonhard and Agatha Sattler in Altstädten in the Allgäu. Nothing is known about his training; he may have learned in Munich and worked as an assistant to Giovanni Giuliani in Vienna . He first appeared in the archives of St. Florian in 1711 when he was a trained stone sculptor and designed the monastery portal.

On May 16, 1713 he married Maria Anna Wözendorfer in St. Forian, whose father Georg was a councilor and hatstepper in St. Florian. The couple had 13 children, of whom Johann Paul and Johann Jakob also became sculptors. Leonhard Sattler also worked as a market judge .

Sattler's works, which in addition to figural sculptures also include decorations and furniture, were created almost exclusively in the service of St. Florian Monastery. They clearly show the influences of Giovanni Giuliani in stone sculpture and Andreas Faistenberger in wood sculpture.
