Leopold Babitsch

Leopold Babitsch (born November 7, 1903 in Vienna , † June 15, 1960 in Graz ) was an Austrian farmer's union director and politician ( STVP / ÖVP ).

Family and work

Leopold Babitsch graduated in 1925 as a qualified engineer at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna .

From 1926 to 1934 he was chamber secretary of the Weitra district chamber of farmers in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria . In 1934 he was appointed director of the Styrian Farmers' Union in Graz, but dismissed again in 1938 with the end of the First Republic and the annexation of Austria . From 1939 to 1942 Babitsch was goods inspector in Heiligenkreuz near Baden.

In 1945 he was again appointed director of the Styrian Farmers' Union; In 1953 he was appointed economics councilor.

Babitsch was a member of the Catholic student associations K.Ö.St.V. Babenberg Graz in the ÖCV and the K.Ö.L. Ferdinandea Graz in KÖL .

MP

Leopold Babitsch was a member of the Styrian People's Party , the regional organization of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in Styria . In 1934 he was regional chamber councilor of the Styrian Chamber of Agriculture. From 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Federal Economic Council.

From December 19, 1945 to March 18, 1953 he was a member of the National Council . From April 15, 1953 to June 15, 1960 he was a member of the Federal Council . From January 1, 1958 to June 30, 1958, Leopold Babitsch was President (Chairman) of the Federal Council .

Babitsch was considered a confidante of Leopold Figl .
