Leopold Kogler (born May 22, 1952 in St. Peter in der Au ) is an Austrian painter , graphic artist and art teacher .

He is president of the regional association of the Lower Austrian art associations, directs the Lower Austrian Documentation Center for Modern Art in St. Pölten and the Lower Austrian Painting Academy and works as a regional school inspector for art education.

Live and act

After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter and working as a technical draftsman and interior designer, Kogler studied interior design from 1973 to 1977 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Oswald Oberhuber , Wander Bertoni and Bazon Brock before completing his studies in art and craft education. This was followed in 1975 studies of art history , media and communication science and social history at the University of Vienna with a doctorate in philosophy in 1983. From 1992 he studied sociology and worked on an art-sociological thesis on contemporary art reception and problems of art education in Austria and graduated as Doctor of Social and Economic Sciences.

Since 1976, Kogler has presented his works to the public at solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad and publishes his works in catalogs that are published for them. He lives and works in St. Peter in der Au, is a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus and has received several awards for his works. He is the author of numerous catalog articles and from 1994 acted as a cultural reporter for Niederösterreichische Nachrichten and uses his pedagogical skills as a lecturer in child and adult education.

The artist has been chairman of the Amstetten Art Association since 1980, has been the artistic director of the Weistrach Blue-Yellow Quarter Gallery, which he founded, and a teacher at the Weyer and Steyr summer academies since 1984 . He is a member of the Künstlerhaus Wien and the Upper Austrian Art Association , where he is involved in organizing exhibitions.

Since 2010 he has headed the regional association of Lower Austrian art associations and heads the Lower Austrian Documentation Center for Modern Art in Sankt Pölten.

His professional sphere of activity is the activity as a technical inspector for art education at the state school board for Lower Austria and the management of the painting academy Lower Austria. Before that, from 2003 he was director and teacher at the Federal High School and Federal Real High School Wieselburg.

Kogler is married to Elisabeth and has three children.
