history

Around 1850 the resident pastor Wilhelm Zeiß (father of Emil Zeiß ), in honor of whom a street in the center of Leopoldshöhe Pastor-Zeiß-Weg was named in 2013, had paced the distances between the churches in Heepen and Lage as well as Schötmar and Oerlinghausen to find a central point for a new church. In order to enable an equal stride length, he should have a rope attached between his ankles. The actual central point is about 200 m south of the church location, whether this is due to the imprecision of the steps or the topography (the church was built at the highest point of a small hill) can no longer be clarified. It is also noteworthy that the orientation of the church deviates by more than 6 degrees from the west-east direction.

In the course of the local government reform in 1969 , Leopoldshöhe and the 7 surrounding old communities formed the new large community Leopoldshöhe.

Since three central streets meet in the town center, the only market square in the municipality of Leopoldshöhe was created here. As a result, and in order to achieve an urban structure, construction activity concentrated. When drawing up the zoning plan , it was planned to create a settlement focus between Leopoldshöhe and Schuckenbaum . The counterweight to this is in the south of the municipality, between Asemissen and Bechterdissen .

In 2004 the L 751 (Hauptstrasse / Schötmarsche Strasse), which connects Bad Salzuflen and Oerlinghausen , was laid around the town center. At that time, a new business center was built on Krentruper Straße / Bürgermeister-Brinkmann-Weg. The street areas of the L 751 and the K 5 (Herford Street) remaining in the center were then downgraded to a municipal street.

In 2007/2008 these main streets in the center were redesigned, then (2008/2009) the market square.
