Les Clouzeaux is a former French commune with last 2,591 inhabitants (2013) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belonged to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of La Roche-sur-Yon-2 (until 2015: canton of La Roche-sur-Yon-Sud ). The inhabitants are called cluzelien .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Aubigny and Les Clouzeaux were merged to form a commune nouvelle called Aubigny-Les Clouzeaux .

geography

Les Clouzeaux is six kilometers southwest of La Roche-sur-Yon . The surrounding area is opened up by the A87 autoroute .

history

During the Vendée uprising on March 21, 1794, the republicans and Vendée troops faced each other in the Battle of Les Clouzeaux. Despite the numerical superiority of the Republicans (around 2000), the 800 men of the Vendée managed to win and kill the leader of the Republicans, General Nicolas Haxo .
