General Lester L. Lyles

Lester L. Lyles (* 20th April 1946 in Washington, DC ) is a retired American general of the US Air Force , both Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force and commander of the Air Force Materiel Command was.

Life

After attending school, he first studied mechanical engineering at Howard University , graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BS Mechanical Engineering) and then joining the US Air Force. A post-graduate studies in the fields of mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering at the New Mexico State University , he finished (NMSU) in 1969 with a Master of Science (MS Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering).

After serving as director of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization from 1996 to 1999, he was named General in 1999 as Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force. Subsequently, from 2000 until his retirement in 2003, he was commander of the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base , one of the nine main commands of the US Air Force .

During his military career he has received several awards and received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal in addition to the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal .

After retiring from active military service, he switched to the private sector and became a member of the Board of Directors of General Dynamics in 2003 , KBR in 2007 and Precision Castparts in 2008 . In addition, he was temporarily a member of the Boards of Directors of DPL, Inc., MTC Technologies, Inc. and USAA. He has also served on the Battelle Institute's board of directors since 2006 and on the boards of directors of the Air Force Association and the American Security Project.
