Let It Scream is the first and only album released by the American hard rock band The Scream .

History of origin

John Corabi , singer of the group Angora , met the guitarist Bruce Bouillet, who had left Racer X after the group broke up . With him and two other ex-members of Racer X (John Alderete and Scott Travis ) he formed the group Saints or Sinners . The band got a record deal, but before the recording of their first album, Travis left the band and switched to Judas Priest . He was replaced by Walt Woodward III († June 8, 2010; previously with the band Shark Island ).

The band kept the record deal with Hollywood Records when they changed their name to The Scream . We succeeded in engaging producer Eddie Kramer for the recordings. The group went into the studio and recorded the album Let It Scream , the songs of which the band had largely written earlier and often played live. The title I Don't Care was created with the participation of Scott Travis.

Guest musicians were Ray Gillen and Jeff Martin, who were members of Badlands at the time. They sang backing vocals for the song You are all I Need .

publication

Let It Scream was released in 1991. The cover showed a two-line lettering with the name of the group, which stood over a skull framed by flames. Below the skull was the title, Let It Scream . When the booklet was opened, it showed a list of tracks on the left, a photo of the band in the middle, and thanks and production notes on the right. The lyrics of the individual songs were printed on the inside.

On July 12, 2018, the album was reissued by Rock Candy Records , the recordings were remastered . In addition to the original version of the album, the CD contained the song Young and Dumb, the band's contribution to the soundtrack of the film Encino Man (German title: Steinzeit Junior ). This track was recorded in the Sound City studio and produced by John Alderete, Bruce Bouillet and GGGarth . In addition, the remake of Let It Scream included six live versions that were recorded in 1992 at the Marquee Club in Orange County . The booklet had 16 pages and contained extensive liner notes .

reception

The German magazine Rock Hard awarded 7.5 points for the debut album, and reviewer Wolfgang Schäfer said that the band "musically proves its weakness for acts like Badlands, AC / DC or Cinderella (in" Long Cold Winter "times)" . Although blues-heavy hard rock is "with a few exceptions" not his thing, songs like "the lively opener" Outlaw , the "soulful ballad" I Will See You Anymore or "the rocky" I Don't Care could convince him. The musicians seemed to have mastered their craft “all too obviously”. Seen in this way, Let lt Scream turned out to be “an above-average album”, which “lovers of the above-mentioned bands should be worth listening to one way or another”.
