Leupoldsdorf (with Leupoldsdorferhammer) is a district of the municipality of Tröstau in the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains .

geography

Leupoldsdorf is located in the Fichtel Mountains in Upper Franconia . The Röslau crosses the place, numerous smaller flowing waters have their origin there. The village is surrounded by dense forest that stretches across the entire Schneeberg massif and only opens towards Wunsiedel. Leupoldsdorf lies at the foot of the Platte , a mountain on which huge granite slabs are stored. A somewhat deeper granite quarry can be seen from afar.

The village of Waffenhammer, a small settlement on the Röslau, lies between Vordorfermühle and Leupoldsdorf. The Röslau also separates the eastern Leupoldsdorf from the Leupoldsdorferhammer district. There used to be a hammer mill next to the old castle.

history

On December 29, 1393, two witnesses "von Lewpoltorf" were named when the manorial forest was roughened.

On April 30, 1432 Ulrich von Taubenmerckel received the iron hammer in Leupoldsdorf from the Bayreuth margrave “when the same hammer came from the old days”, which means that a hammer must have existed before. The hammer mill developed under the following owners, Franck (from 1563) and Schreyer (from 1620). In 1708 it was taken over by the millers, who also owned the Neuenhammer near Tröstau and the blast furnace and the Zainhammer near Meierhof (near Weißenstadt). Under Johann Christoph von Müller (* May 6, 1785, ennobled 1816, † November 18, 1830) the Leupoldsdorf hammer had its heyday; Workers earned their wages in the tin hammer, stick hammer and zain hammer; Coalers and carters were also part of the hammer mill. Albert Hugo von Müller, the last hammer owner, had to cease operations due to unprofitability.

Leupoldsdorf was the terminus of the Holenbrunn - Wunsiedel - Tröstau - Leupoldsdorf line (opening of the Wunsiedel - Leupoldsdorf line on November 7, 1913, last scheduled passenger train on September 27, 1975, closure of the line on May 23, 1993). The Tröstau - Leupoldsdorf railway line is now a cycling and hiking trail. To the northwest of Leupoldsdorf rises the Feuerberg, a site of stone age artifacts.

tourism

In the village there is the castle inn, a 700 year old wall with an attached beer garden. Leupoldsdorf is the starting point for hikes, there are several guest rooms in the village.

On a geological and historical nature trail, display boards explain the geology of the area. In addition, an adventure trail has been set up in the forest. Right next door is the Petzelweiher, a swimming pond with a kiosk. This is followed by a tennis facility. The Strudelweiher lies north of Leupoldsdorf.

societies

The “Leupoldsdorfer Kirwa” organized by the boys' association is known throughout the Fichtel Mountains . In addition, the boys' association sets up the maypole . The volunteer fire brigade organizes a fire brigade festival every year. The choral society had a children's and youth choir for over ten years.

building

The outstanding building complex is the Leupoldsdorf Castle of the former hammer lord von Müller (now a restaurant). The manor house dates from the 17th century and was rebuilt in 1815/16. It has a hipped roof with a baroque roof turret; on the ground floor there are rooms with barrel or cross vaults. On the west side the coat of arms of the von Müller family is attached, on the gate there are two coats of arms of the Schreyer family.

Since October 16, 2010, the attached gatehouse has housed an information point for the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park and an exhibition on the ownership structure at the time and iron production and processing. In the immediate vicinity of the Hammerherrenhaus , the former park of the Hammerherren was reconstructed in 2010 and is now called the Kurpark.

The old Leupoldsdorf schoolhouse is used as an event room. Today the primary school is in Tröstau, the secondary school with the 5th and 6th grade in Nagel and the 7th to 9th grade in Tröstau.

Transport links

Leupoldsdorf is on the county road between the B 303 and Weißenstadt . A local road leads to Tröstau, Schönbrunn and Vordorfermühle. The road Leupoldsdorf - Hildenbach via Hildenmühle is closed to motor vehicle traffic. The B 303 connects the A 9 with the A 93 and is the main artery for international traffic to the Czech Republic. Leupoldsdorf used to have a train station and was the end point of the Holenbrunn - Wunsiedel - Tröstau - Leupoldsdorf branch line . The line was shut down; the route is partly used as a cycle path. The international bridge cycle path from Leupoldsdorf via Wunsiedel and Selb to Aš in the Czech Republic begins at the former Leupoldsdorf train station.
