Leups

Leups is part of the municipality of Pegnitz in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth in Bavaria .

geography

The predominantly Catholic embossed Kirchdorf with 201 inhabitants (as of 19 September 2006) is located in the Franconian Switzerland about 18 km south of Bayreuth . The Franconian Marienweg runs through Leups .

history

On May 3, 1952, Leups was struck by a devastating fire caused by lightning. The entire western half of the village was destroyed except for three buildings. On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community was incorporated into the city of Pegnitz.

Regular events

  • Every year in July the Leupser Schupfenfest takes place.
  • Since 1998, the Leupser Kerwa has been celebrated every first weekend in September . The highlights of the Kerwawoche are the "digging up" on Wednesday, the erection of the Kerwa tree on Saturday and the "playing" of the Kerwabuam and Madla on the Leupser village square on Sunday. The Kerwa ends on Monday with the “playing around” through the village. The Kerwabum and Madla go from house to house with music and are served almost exclusively with alcoholic beverages. The Leupser Kerwa will come to a final conclusion on the following Friday at the “Kerwa dig”.
  • Another highlight is the annual beach party "Heat Free"

  • Leups has a voluntary fire brigade with around 45 active and some passive and supporting members
  • Since October 2001, Leups has had its own theater group consisting of eight to ten women and men. Five pieces have been performed so far.
