The village from the southwest

Levan ( Albanian  also  Levani ) is a place in the Fier district in Albania about seven kilometers southwest of Fier . The municipality of Levan, which was incorporated into the municipality of Fier in 2015, had 8159 inhabitants in 2011. In 2001 there were 11,536 inhabitants (2001).

Levan is located in the south of the great Myzeqe plain at the foot of some foothills of the Mallakastra hills . The Vjosa , the largest river in southwestern Albania , flows around four kilometers further south . The area around Levan is very much characterized by agriculture: To the south to the river and to the west to the Adriatic Sea there are many hectares of built-up agricultural land. The main crops are cereals, corn, potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables. Grapes for wine production are also occasionally cultivated.

The village is on the main road from Fier to Vlora and Tepelena . The national road SH8 and the Durrës - Rrogozhina - Fier - Vlora of the Albanian Railway (HSH) run through Levan . The route from Levan to Vlorë was opened in 2012 as a motorway with four lanes and a hard shoulder on both sides on a new route. The opening of the Fier bypass in summer 2020 will relieve the town of a large part of through traffic.
The new route of the important north-south axis SH4 begins in Levan , which leads to Tepelena as an expressway. The two-lane road (including a hard shoulder on both sides) replaces the winding mountain route via Ballsh and shortens the north-south connection by 22 kilometers.
To the north, the Fier bypass is currently under construction, which will lead past ancient Apollonia in a wide arc to the west and will also relieve Levan of through traffic.

The municipality ( Albanian  komuna ) of Levan comprised the main town and ten other villages in the area north of the lower reaches of the Vjosa: Ferras , Peshtan i Madh , Peshtan i Vogël , Shtyllas , Bishan , Bashkim , Martina , Pishë Poro and Qar .
