Lev Nikolayevich Oborin ( Russian Лев Николаевич Оборин ., Scientific transliteration Lev Nikolaevich Oborin ; born August 29 . Jul / 11. September  1907 greg. In Moscow , † 5. January 1974 in Moscow) was a Soviet pianist.

Live and act

Oborin studied piano at the Moscow Gnessin Institute with Jelena Gnessina , a student of Ferruccio Busoni , and composition with Alexander Gretschaninow and from 1921 to 1926 piano with Konstantin Igumnow at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1927 he won the first Chopin competition .

After a few concerts in Poland and Germany , he gave concerts exclusively in the Soviet Union and has also taught at the Moscow Conservatory since 1928. In 1935 a lifelong artistic partnership began with the violinist David Oistrach , with whom he formed a well-known trio from 1941 to 1963 (the death of the cellist Svyatoslaw Knuschewizki ). In 1948 he was appointed professor at the Moscow Conservatory.

Oborin played numerous first performances by composers of the 20th century, e. B. by Chatschaturjan , whose piano concerto is dedicated to him, by Schebalin , Myaskovsky , Prokofiev and Shostakovich . As a teacher he had countless students, the best known were Vladimir Ashkenazy , Gennady Roshdestvensky and Ekaterina Novitskaya . The German pianist Peter Rösel also studied with Oborin.

Oborin was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1943 . He died in 1974 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
