Lewis J. Rachmil

Lewis J. Rachmil (* 3. July 1908 in New York City , New York ; † 19th February 1984 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American art director , Production Designer and film producer , who at the Academy Awards in 1941 for the Oscar for the best production design was nominated.

Life

Rachmil began his career as art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1934 with the film Tres Amores and worked on the staging of almost sixty films until his death. For the scenery in Our Little Town (1940), a film adaptation of the theater play of the same name by Thornton Wilder and directed by Sam Wood with William Holden , Martha Scott and Frank Craven , he was nominated for the Oscar for best production design at the 1941 Academy Awards.

After 1941, Rachmil worked mainly as a production manager and producer and as such was involved in the production of almost ninety films.
