Li Shijun is the pseudonym of Lǐ Shijun ( Chinese  李士俊 * 29. March 1923 in Shatou; † 10. November 2012 ), a Chinese Esperanto - writer and - translator .

biography

Li Shijun was born into a peasant family in Shatou Village (沙头 村) in Hebei Province, China . In 1936, as a schoolboy, he heard that students in Beijing had been corresponding in Esperanto since the May 4, 1919 Movement in order to undermine postal censorship . In 1939 he found a brochure called Esperanto en unu monato ("Esperanto in a month") and began to learn the language. In 1940 he took part in an Esperanto correspondence course and since 1941 he worked actively in the Chinese Esperanto movement, organizing exhibitions and leading language courses.

In 1950 Laŭlum was involved in the preparations for the Chinese Esperanto League (Ĉina Esperanto-Ligo) and since then he has worked in the editorial team of the monthly magazine El Popola Ĉinio ("From People's China"). At the same time he wrote for the newspaper Popola Mondo ("World of the People"). In the 1960s Laŭlum headed the translation department at El Popola Ĉinio and in the 1980s he became the magazine's deputy editor-in-chief. In 1983 Laŭlum became a member of the Akademio de Esperanto (Esperanto Academy) and a member of the State Commission for the Qualification of Translators as well as head of the Ĉina Esperanto-Instituto (Chinese Esperanto Institute).
