Li Weifeng ( Chinese 李玮锋 , Pinyin Lǐ Wěifēng ; born December 1, 1978 in Changchun , Jilin ) is a former Chinese football player and since October 11, 2011, the national record player in his country.
Career
society
Li started his career at Shenzhen Shangqingyin in 1998 . In 2002 he tried his hand at Europe for a short time when he was signed by Everton FC under a sponsorship agreement with the Chinese company Keijan . Here, however, he could not assert himself and only came to an appearance in the Premier League . So in 2003 he returned to China and went to Shenzhen Shangqingyin again. In 2006 he moved to league rivals Shanghai Shenhua .
In 2009 he was signed by the South Korean representative Suwon Bluewings , making Li the first Chinese in the K League Classic . Here he became a crowd favorite due to his consistently good performance and was nicknamed " The Great Wall of China " . From 2011 to 2015 he played for Tianjin Teda , after which he ended his career.
National team
Li was a Chinese international . He took part in the 2002 World Cup. In September 2006, the team captain was kicked out of the team because he had beaten a teammate and received his sixth red card within 14 months. He played 112 international matches in which he scored eleven goals. At the only meeting to date with the German national team on October 12, 2005, he owed the penalty for the 1-0 final score for the German selection. At the 2008 Home Olympics , Li Weifeng was the captain of China's squad.
On October 11, 2011, he played his 109th international match in the World Cup qualifier against Iraq, setting the record for Hao Haidong , whose official A-internationals were reduced by FIFA on June 10, 2011 from 115 to 109.
Play style
Li was seen as an aggressive, unyielding defender and was also called "Dàtóu" (German: "big head" ) because of his dominance in headers . In addition, whenever the opportunity arose, he was always on the offensive.
controversy
Even if Li's quality on the pitch was largely undisputed, he kept getting problems due to his verbal and physical lapses. For example, he attacked Keita Suzuki by the neck in a game against Japan and received a yellow card. In 2008 he was banned for eight games after an attack against a player. His red cards, which began to pile up after 2008, even meant that he had to give up the captain's armband for the national team.
