The Liberal-Islamic Bund e. V. ( LIB ) is a non-profit organized, registered association religious community based in Cologne and administration in Hamburg , a liberal interpretation of Islam represents.

history

The Liberal Islamic Federation was founded in the summer of 2010. The LIB wants to represent Muslim citizens in Germany who, with their liberal view of Islam, do not see themselves adequately represented in public debates, other Islamic organizations and political processes. Only Muslims who do not belong to any other Islamic association can become full members . The LIB is chaired by Odette Yılmaz, the successor to the Islamic scholar Nushin Atmaca. Since it was founded in 2010, this has been the Islamic scholar Lamya Kaddor . The other board members are Frederike Güler, Agnes Acar and Uğursay Er. Other well-known members are the Imamin Rabeya Müller (founding member), Siham Zaaj and the writer Hilal Sezgin .

There are parishes in Cologne , Frankfurt am Main , Berlin , Hamburg and Göttingen . Other communities in Stuttgart and in the Rhein-Neckar district are being set up.

Role in the Islam debate

The journalist Patrick Bahners criticized in 2011 in an article of the FAZ the liberal Islam , which is set against the "Phantom image of young conservatives" and will outline no factual position but occupying only a function of location; accordingly there are Muslims who are available as " mediation theologians according to the taste of Annette Schavan ". The journalist Hilal Sezgin , a member of the Liberal-Islamic League, then described herself as such a "mediating theologian" and defended this position. The Liberal-Islamic Bund criticizes the fact that organizations it regards as conservative , such as the Central Council of Muslims in Germany , do not utter a critical word about so-called honor killings and other crimes that are committed by Muslims in Germany.

The former chairwoman of the LIB, Lamya Kaddor , rejected a ban on the performance of the controversial Islamophobic film Innocence of Muslims , which had been examined by the German government, on the grounds that: " The more you talk about a ban and make such content taboo, the more damage you do . “Discussions about special regulations for Muslims would promote Islamophobia in Germany.
