Lieksanjoki ( Russian Лендерка ) is a river in Russia and Finland .
It has its origin in Lake Sula ( Russian озеро Сула ) in the Republic of Karelia . From there it flows in a westerly direction. It flows through Lake Kuikkaselkä and after 41 km it reaches the Finnish border. It then flows through Lake Ruunaanjärvi in the Ruunaa recreation area . Then the Lieksanjoki flows through the smaller lake Polvijärvi , into which the Tuulijoki also flows. Below these lakes, the river on several rapids in kayaks -fahrern and whitewater - canoeists are popular.
In the lower reaches of the Lieksanjoki, the Jongunjoki meets the river when coming from the right. A few kilometers later, the Lieksanjoki flows through Lake Pankajärvi . After a total of 132 km, the Lieksanjoki flows into Lake Pielinen near Lieksa .
The 8255 km² catchment area of the Lieksanjoki also includes the larger lakes of Leksosero and Tulos in Russia .
Kemijoki Oy operates two hydropower plants on the lower reaches of the Lieksanjoki.
