Aksel Borgen, Aksel Nilsen ( Nicolai Cleve Broch ) before his name change , was tried 20 years ago for the murder of 18-year-old Karine Haansteen. However, this ended with the significant acquittal. Branded, he disappears from his hometown Lifjord in Norway and makes a career in Asia. He lives as a successful businessman in Kuala Lumpur with his wife Angeline and his son .

One day he is confronted with his past through his work: William Haansteen asks him to invest in the financially troubled solar company in Lifjord. Aksel flies to Norway, where old feuds sprout again and Eva Haansteen, the mother of the killed Karine, fights him bitterly.

season 2

After an outrageous confession, William Hansteen is brought to trial. Aksel hopes that the truth will come to light and that the old suspicion will finally wash him away. He receives support from public prosecutor Amina Sahir, who investigates every lead that Aksel exonerates.

Eva Haansteen uses every means to save her husband William from imprisonment. She starts an affair with the police officer Finn Kristoffersen, who is supposed to remove incriminating evidence.

When another girl dies, the investigation focuses again on the Nilsen family: Aksel's brother Erik is arrested. Left on his own, Aksel desperately tries to free himself and his brother from suspicions.
