description

Lilium henrici is perennial and reaches heights between 90 and 120 centimeters.

The broad-oval onion reaches a diameter of 4 to 4.5 centimeters and has up to 30 visible, lanceolate scales that are 2.5 to 4 centimeters long and 0.8 to 1.5 centimeters wide. The narrow, lanceolate leaves are hairless, are distributed along the stem, are 12 to 15 inches long and 0.9 to 1.4 inches wide.

The plant blooms in June and July with five to six wide, bell-shaped flowers in a cluster . The six elongated-round to lanceolate bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) of the same shape are white to pale pink and have a dark to purple sap mark ; they are 3.5 to 5 inches long and 1.2 to 1.4 (2) inches wide. The nectar furrows are green and not papillary ; the stamens converge towards their end and are shorter than the petals. The hairless stamen is up to 2 centimeters, the anthers 1 centimeter long; the pollen is yellow. The stylus reaches a length of 1.5 to 2.2 centimeters.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

distribution

Lilium henrici is endemic to the west of Sichuan and the north-west of Yunnan (China) at altitudes of 2700 to 3300 m, where it colonizes mixed forests and thicket edges with high humidity.

Systematics

Lilium huidongense is close to the species Lilium henrici . Besides Lilium henrici . Var henrici there is the variety:

  • Lilium henrici var. Maculatum (WE Evans) Woodcock & Stearn : There are also some dark to purple spots on the inner bracts. This variety is found exclusively in northwest Yunnan.

Botanical history

Lilium henrici was first described in 1898 by Adrien René Franchet and christened in honor of Henri Philippe Marie d'Orléans , who discovered and collected the species in 1895. In 1926 Ernest Henry Wilson classified it as a Nomocharis species due to the shape of the flower , but this classification has been abandoned again.
