Lilium leucanthum ( Chinese  宜昌 百合 , Pinyin Yíchāng bǎihé ) is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the trumpet lily section .

description

Lilium leucanthum reaches a height of 60 cm to 150 cm. The stem is papillae . The leaves are lanceolate, 8 to 17 cm long and 6 to 10 mm wide. They are freely distributed around the stem.

The plant blooms from June to December with one or up to four fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers , in culture also with up to 18 flowers. These are arranged horizontally in a pyramidal panicle . The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six bracts are 12-15 cm long and 12-18 mm wide. There are three spatulate corolla and three lanceolate sepals , but otherwise they look very similar. The basic color of the flowers is pure white, but the outside is greenish along the median nerve, with Lilium leucanthum var. Centifolium tinged with purple to brownish. Each flower contains three carpels and six stamens. The anthers are dark chocolate brown, the pollen are brick red, the filaments are very (10 to 22 cm) long and densely hairy. The nectaries are not papillary. The seeds mature in oval seed capsules 4.5 cm to 5 cm long .

The onions are small, rounded and reach a diameter of about 4 cm, they are covered with yellowish lanceolate scales that darken to purple in the air.

Lilium leucanthum thrives on meadows near rivers at altitudes between 400 and 2500 m above sea level, it is widespread in the People's Republic of China in the provinces of Hubei and Sichuan , as well as in the south of Gansu .

Systematics

There are two varieties:

  • Lilium leucanthum var. Leucanthum
  • Lilium leucanthum var. Centifolium : flowers overflowing purple to brownish along the median nerve.
