Limahl (born December 19, 1958 in Wigan , Lancashire , United Kingdom ; actually Christopher Hamill ) is a British pop singer .

Career

1980s: Start of career and success with Kajagoogoo

Chris Hamill began his musical career in 1980 when he released the single It's Christmas under his real name . However, his breakthrough came as a singer in the band Kajagoogoo . The four other band members were looking for a front man who could sing and who should look good through an ad in various music magazines. Hamill changed his name to Limahl, an anagram of his last name, and answered the ad.

Kajagoogoo's debut single Too Shy stormed to number one in the UK charts shortly after its release in early 1983 and sold over four million copies worldwide. After two more hits ( Ooh to Be Ah and Hang On Now ) Limahl left the band after internal differences in 1983 and started a solo career.

He achieved his first successes with the singles Only for Love and Too Much Trouble . However, he landed the biggest hit of his career in collaboration with Giorgio Moroder in 1984 with The NeverEnding Story , the theme song for the US version of the film The Neverending Story . Moroder produced another Limahl album in 1986 entitled Color All My Days and the smaller hit Love in Your Eyes .

The single Inside to Outside from 1986 is a cover version of the title of the German group Lake from their album So What! from the same year.

1990s: comeback attempts

In the early 1990s Limahl tried to build on the success of earlier days with Too Shy '92 . However , this was not granted to the accompanying album Love Is Blind . While Don't Suppose was a Top 10 album with number 6 in the German charts and Color All My Days made it to number 45, Love Is Blind was not convincing and did not even make it into the Top 100. A version of the album expanded by two bonus tracks was released for the Japanese market.

Since the 1990s and his coming out , Limahl has mainly appeared in 80s revival shows .

Since 2000: musicals, comeback shows and re-establishment of Kajagoogoo

In 2000/2001 he played a leading role in the musical What a Feeling . In 2004 he took part in the German show Comeback - The Big Chance , in which he finished fourth.

In 2006 Limahl released a new single: Tell Me Why . A best of album followed. The artist's video can be found on his website. In early 2008, 25 years after Kajagoogoo left, Limahl rejoined his old band. At the end of 2009 the two albums Don't Suppose and Color All My Days were released as downloads with bonus remixes and 12 " versions.

In December 2012, he took part in the UK reality show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! part, the role model for the German show Ich bin ein Star - Get me out of here! and finished 10th out of 12 candidates.
