Lime Acres is a South African mining town in the municipality of Kgatelopele , ZF Mgcawu District in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa . It is located east of Postmasburg . In 2011 Lime Acres had 4408 inhabitants in 1757 households.

Lime Acres has four districts: Finsch Mine , Five Mission , Lime Acres Mine and Norfin .

Lime Acres is a mining town whose mining history began with limestone mining . The town was laid out for the limestone quarry workers and named Lime Acres by Eric Lowther, managing director of Northern Lime. The first lime kiln was put into operation in 1954.

In 1961, while exploring asbestos deposits, geologists came across a kimberlite chimney with an economically viable diamond concentration .

Two kilometers outside is the Finsch diamond mine - the youngest and second most productive mine in South Africa. The main livelihood for the residents of Lime Acres is mining. Diamond mining was initially operated in open-cast mining and since 1991 extensively operated underground.

Lime Acres can be reached by land via the regional road R31 from the direction of Postmasburg (42 km) or from the south of Griekwastad (75 km) on the national road N8 . The city has a train station on the railway line Kimberley - Barkly West - Postmasburg - Sishen - Hotazel . To the east of Lime Acres, there is a rail and road branch to Daniëlskuil in the north. Lime Acres Finsch Airport is to the west of the settlement .
