The Lincoln Futura was a concept car from Lincoln . The handcrafted one-of-a-kind item was unveiled in 1955 and cost $ 250,000 to build. The design study was produced by the Ghia on behalf of Ford . The chassis was taken from the Lincoln Mark II .

Particularly extravagant were the two separate passenger compartment hoods, reminiscent of jet fighter pulpits, and the large tail fins . The tail fins were adopted in production models, and the Futura was given the leading automotive role in the film It Started with a Kiss , painted red . George Barris bought the vehicle and turned it into the Batmobile for the Batman TV series in 1966 . In January 2013, the vehicle achieved a price of 4.2 million US dollars (equivalent to 3.1 million euros) at an auction.
