The Lincoln Model K was a luxury passenger car that Ford introduced under the brand name Lincoln as the successor to the Model L in January 1931.
Year by year
1931 (series 201)
Model K took over the side-controlled V8 engine with a 60 ° cylinder angle and 6,307 cm³ displacement of the predecessor model L. However, this now developed 120 bhp (88 kW) at 2,900 rpm. The engine power was transmitted via a two-disc dry clutch to a manual three-speed gearbox with stick shift in the center of the vehicle and from there to the rear axle. All wheels were mechanically braked.
Already in the first year 27 different bodies were offered, which were designed a little more modern compared to the previous model. So there was B. a then fashionable, chrome-plated rod in front of the grille, on which the headlights were attached. The chassis was lengthened by 9 "compared to its predecessor and now had a wheelbase of 3,683 mm.
1932
Model KA (Series 501)
The V8 engine got 5 bhp power increase and now developed 125 bhp (92 kW) at 2,900 rpm. The chassis were again shortened by 9 "(wheelbase 3,454 mm) and the number of possible superstructures drastically reduced to ten. The price of the" small model "fell by at least US $ 1,000.
Model KB (Series 231)
New this year was the V12 engine with a displacement of 7,340 cm³ and 150 bhp (110 kW) at 3,400 rpm. The new top model was available with many different superstructures and continued exclusively on the long chassis. In addition to the bodies manufactured by Lincoln, there were a number of bodies that were made by the wheelwright at the customer's request . The logo of the V12 models is highlighted in blue, that of the KA V8 in red.
1933
Model KA (Series 511)
This year the "small model" also got a V12 engine. This had a cylinder angle of 67 °, a displacement of 6,255 cm³ and also made 125 bhp (92 kW) at 3,400 rpm. There were again 12 different (factory) bodies.
Model KB (series 251)
Little changed in the large model this year, only a more modern frame was introduced.
1934
Model KA (Series 521)
Again came a new, larger engine: It had 6,784 cc and developed 150 bhp (110 kW) at 3,800 rpm. The grille was painted in body color and the headlights were torpedo-shaped.
Model KB (Series 271)
Although still run as a separate series, the KB model technically corresponded to the KA model. The only differences were the longer chassis and the more luxurious structures.
1935 (series 301/541)
This year, both series were again called Model K, but were still available with a wheelbase of 3,454 mm and 3,683 mm respectively. There were almost no technical changes.
1936 (series 300)
After the introduction of the smaller, streamlined Zephyr model, the K model , which was further manufactured with a few changes, took the place of the top model. The models of this year can be recognized by the downward-shifted headlights.
1937
While there were no technical changes, the styling was completely redesigned: the headlights were given a teardrop shape (like on the Zephyr) and moved into the front fenders. The backward sloping grille was slightly V-shaped, as was the split windshield. The grille consisted of 30 horizontal chrome bars.
1938
The 30 bars of the radiator grille gave way to 18 slightly wider ones. All models now had a separate trunk.
1939
In the last year of production there was a new carburetor and more stable steel spoke wheels. In the following year, the K model was replaced by the new, smaller Continental .
