The linden hedge is a 446.3 m high mountain in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park in Germany .

location

The linden hedge is located in the border area of the western Unstrut-Hainich district and the northern Wartburg district immediately south of Schierschwende and northeast of Treffurt about 14 kilometers west of Mühlhausen / Thuringia . Naturally it belongs to the Falkener Platte at the transition to the Lower Werrabergland .

nature

The linden hedge is located southwest of the Eichenberg – Gotha – Saalfeld fault zone and consists of shell limestone . The mountain was cleared in the High Middle Ages and is used for agriculture despite difficult soil conditions. On the hill there are some old linden trees that have been designated as natural monuments. In the Middle Ages a landwehr ran over this place to protect the town of Treffurt, the few remains of the complex, which probably consisted mainly of hedges, were placed under protection as a ground monument.

particularities

The linden hedge is made accessible by local hiking trails from Treffurt, Falken, Nazza , Wendehausen, Diedorf and Heyerode . From the unwooded mountain peak there are beautiful views: in the north of some heights of the southern Eichsfeld , in the east of the western edge of the Hainich , in the south of the bare heights of Scherbda and Neukirchen and further to the western Thuringian Forest with the Inselsberg of the Wartburg . In the southwest you can see the mountain peak of the Öchsen near Vacha above the Schnellmannshäuser Valley and Entenberg. The hero stone appears next to it . In the west the view is restricted by the mountain ridge, in a lane you can see the antennas on the summit of the Hohe Meißner . There is a refuge with seating for visitors, and residents like to use the place as a barbecue area. A little to the east on the border to Gut Schönberg there is a weather cross. Already at the turn of the century, the former excursion restaurant "Gute Hoffnung" was a popular excursion destination.

Every year in autumn, the community of Schierschwende holds a kite festival with self-made kites on the mountain.
