Line rider

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Line Rider is a Flash game that was developed in September 2006 by the Slovenian student Boštjan Čadež.

Gameplay

Lanes are created using some kind of online flash tool. The user draws paths on the screen, on which a man (linerider) then drives along with a sledge . Since the sled only drives on lines that have been drawn from left to right and that move freely through the others, the player must construct complex images through which the journey runs. The point of the game is that the linerider stays on the sled. Nowadays most of the players want to draw nice backgrounds and keep the linerider in wheelies (by keeping it in balance by accelerating and braking). “Bugs”, in which the linerider is attracted by a line (gravity well), are also deliberately used as a trick. The background creates routes with several thousand lines that are often published as videos. Some fan pages and forums have also been created, which serve to exchange various information on the subject of line riders as well as the exchange of .sol files that save the routes on the computer. So several players can play on one track.

The difficulty in designing a track is that the linerider has a very well implemented physics engine that does not allow overhead rides to be designed without centrifugal force or the like. The linerider (Bosh) can also fall if the terrain rises too steeply at too high a speed. There are now numerous beta test versions with new features. Version 6.8 was announced in November 2010, with a live multiplayer and an improved interface.

Tools

The Curvemaker is a tool with which you can draw perfect curves. It is a program in which you only have to specify the location and angle of the curve and the number of lines. This means that there are almost no more bumps, so that the linerider can be deflected and intercepted at almost unlimited speed.

But there are also other tools such as B. the Circlemaker for perfect circles or the spiral tool for perfect spirals.

Development history

After it was first published on deviantART on September 23, 2006 , it quickly became an Internet phenomenon . By the end of the week of October 16, Line Rider was one of the fastest growing keywords on Google (# 7).

In March 2007, the game won one of the Game Developers Choice Awards for innovation at the Game Developers Conference, alongside Ōkami and Wii Sports . In 2011, linerider was used as a stylistic element in the film Womb .

Articles about Line Rider have been published on numerous websites such as Time magazine. InXile Entertainment acquired the rights for game consoles and released a paid version for handhelds and Symbian and Java-enabled cell phones (Line Rider Mobile). The iPhone and iPod Touch are also supported. In addition, the company developed under the title Line Rider 2: Unbound versions for Nintendo DS and Wii appeared.

There are now the follow-up games Free Rider and Free Rider 2.
