Linear technology
Linear technology is a technical sub-discipline of drive technology ; it deals with mechanical components or mechatronic systems for performing translative movements .
Linear guides and drives are characterized by running with low friction and the ability to absorb transverse forces without being significantly deformed.
Linear systems are used in various technical systems such as building technology (sliding doors, sliding windows, ventilation flaps, skylights etc.), in mechanical engineering (infeed and feed movements), in handling systems (storage systems, equipping) and in rail vehicles with linear motors ( Transrapid, certain subways, roller coasters).
Linear guide
The guide systems , also called linear guides , can be divided into sliding guides and roller guides.
- Linear sliding guides are usually based on several guide elements (e.g. guide rails ) or, in the simplest case - for example in a wooden drawer - on a tongue and groove system in which the tongue and groove are milled into the material .
- Rolling guides are based on the principle of the circulation of rolling elements between two moving guide elements. As in rolling bearings, balls, rollers, needles or other rolling elements are used as rolling elements, which are usually kept separated from one another by a rolling element cage . Guides with ball-bearing rollers are also guided by roller bearings.
