Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader is a computer role-playing game released in 2003 by US developer Reflexive Entertainment in collaboration with Black Isle Studios . It takes place in a parallel world scenario of the Renaissance earth.

action

You start in a slave pit from which you are rescued by Leonardo da Vinci . He brings you to Barcelona, where you can join one of the four factions: the Inquisitors, the Knights Templar, the Magi or the Black Magician. From Barcelona you fight your way west into Spain until you get the task of protecting the holy relics of Europe, which have been stolen from the east by strange snake figures.

You will meet many historical figures in the game, including Galileo Galilei , Marco Polo , Joan of Arc , William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes . The player character himself is a descendant of King Richard the Lionheart . In a crusade in the twelfth century, this caused the so-called 'split' when he had 3,000 captured Arabs executed. The earth cracked and thousands of monsters poured out. Richard teamed up with his enemy Saladin and was able to push back the monsters and close the hole in the earth again. Still, many monsters had come to light. They settled all over the world, and while they could be pushed back in most places, they completely changed the way the world looked. Many people become possessed by the spirits that have invaded them and the four races arise. The character has to find the right way out of the chaos in this world full of prejudice and violence.

Gameplay

In Lionheart , the player moves his character through a varied game world. You can find yourself in Spain , France , England and Persia during the game . Initially, a character is created with Fallout- like rules, whereby you can choose and combine between four races (human, savage, demonic and sylvaner) and three spirits (elemental, animal and demon spirits) to accompany you. Furthermore, there are various attributes (strength, tenacity, observation, charisma, cleverness, agility and luck) on which points can be allocated, although there are different restrictions from race to race. Now there is still the possibility of choosing preferred skills that can later be improved more efficiently with the Fallout system. In addition, each player can choose up to two characteristics that have both positive and negative consequences. The character can, if he has enough experience points through battles, conversations or quests, i. H. Tasks that the player character has to complete, unlock new skills by leveling up, which improve the character and earn new skill points. These increase the magical and physical abilities.
