The Lippequelle is a karst spring in Bad Lippspringe ( Paderborn district ). It forms the origin of the Lippe River .
location
The source pond of the Lippe is located on the southwest edge of the Arminius Park in Bad Lippspringe, on the western foothills of the Egge Mountains , directly below the ruins of Lippspringe Castle . The source is at an altitude of 140 m above sea level. NHN . Lange Straße runs southwest past the source .
Data
Its spring water emerges from a depth of around 8 meters. It is one of several springs in the spa town , which is mainly known for its medicinal springs, and one of two large karst springs in Bad Lippspringe. It has a bed of 740 l / s (0.74 m³ / s). The water comes largely from seepage from rivers , such as. B. the Beke and the Durbeke , in the karst area southeast of Bad Lippspringe and from precipitation that seeps into the limestone. In Bad Lippspringe the water reappears in several springs (in addition to the Lippe spring, including the Jordan spring ) on the border of the fissured limestone and the water-retaining Emscher marl .
As part of the State Garden Show 2017, two "viewing platforms" were installed at the source pond so that visitors can get a better overview of the source pond and the Odin's eye . The Lippequelle is underground with the Jordan spring in Jordan Park, only a few hundred meters away .
Odin's eye
The deep blue scour in the spring pond of the Lippe is popularly known as "Odin's eye". The forecast according to the almighty Germanic God father Odin ripped out his eye and threw into the dry Senne landscape in order to bless them with moisture and blooming life. In 1832, at a distance of only about 25 m from the freshwater spring of the Lippe, the Arminius spring was a warm mineral spring . Until then it was only considered a secondary source of the lip.
In the 8th century AD, Charlemagne camped with his army at the "Quellen der Lippe" to hold imperial assemblies.
