List of karst springs in North Rhine-Westphalia
This is a list of karst springs in North Rhine-Westphalia . It contains a selection of karst springs in North Rhine-Westphalia .
General
Significant karst areas in North Rhine-Westphalia include the Paderborn plateau , the Brilon plateau , the Warsteiner plateau (most of the karst springs, e.g. Lörmecke springs and Hillenberg spring II, are located here for the purpose of supplying water to the Warstein region and parts of the southern Hellweg region), the northern edge of the hair strand (along the Hellweg ), as well as the tree mountains which are karst locally and have many smaller Karst sources, and the Schöppinger Berg . Further small mass limestone deposits are stored in the slate of the Sauerland , Bergisches Land and Eifel (Kalkeifel).
In North Rhine-Westphalia the karst springs appear in 3 different manifestations. In addition to the so-called perennial (constantly water-bearing) springs, intermittent (temporarily water-bearing) springs occur primarily in the area of the Paderborn plateau. These are called Quickspringe in the Paderborn region . They only carry water after heavy rainfall or when the snow melts. In addition, karst springs occur (sometimes also outside the larger karst areas) around which limestone tufa has deposited.
One karst source follows the other, especially along the Hellweg. The water, which previously seeped into the fissures of the mass limestone complex of the hair, collects here underground and accumulates on the so-called Emscher marl (a water-impermeable layer), only to then rise upwards. It then emerges on the boundary between limestone (karst) and marl along a spring horizon. This continues eastwards to the Paderborn plateau, the largest karst area in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Hints
- The pouring values can differ if the publisher of the data only calculated the average value of MNQ and MHQ . The mean bed is significantly lower. Incorrect numbers can also arise from specifying the MHQ as the MQ .
- The list does not contain all karst springs in North Rhine-Westphalia by far, but only a few more or less known ones. Many smaller karst springs are nowadays difficult to access, or in cities they are underground and not visible; There is only very imprecise information on these sources. The number of individual karst springs in North Rhine-Westphalia is in the three-digit range.
- An extensive list of German karst sources outside of North Rhine-Westphalia is given in the list of karst sources in Germany .
