Lisa Otto

Lisa Otto (born November 14, 1919 in Dresden ; † September 18, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ). It was one of the most famous soubrettes in her active time .

Life

Lisa Otto was the daughter of the concert singer Karl Otto. She studied piano and singing at the Dresden Conservatory and made her stage debut in 1941 in Rosenkavalier at the Oberschlesisches Landestheater in Beuthen , Upper Silesia .

From 1945 to 1946 she appeared at the Nuremberg Opera , then at the Semperoper in Dresden from 1946 to 1951. In 1952 she joined the Städtische Oper Berlin , where she is an honorary member and also appeared outside of Germany, including at the Salzburg Festival and at La Scala in Milan .

She was known for her roles in the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , but also in Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz , Ludwig van Beethoven's Fidelio and Richard Strauss ' works Ariadne auf Naxos and Elektra . Her last role at the Deutsche Oper Berlin was the widow Browe in Albert Lortzing's Zar und Zimmermann in 1985 .

Lisa Otto's grave is in the Heiligensee cemetery in Berlin-Reinickendorf .
