Elisabeth "Lisi" Steurer (* 1979 in Lienz , East Tyrol ) is an Austrian mountaineer and climber.

biography

After graduating from the commercial academy in Lienz, Steurer completed her training as a state-certified mountain and ski guide from 2001 to 2003. In 2005 she founded the Bergstatt Alpine School in Lienz. In addition to her main job as a mountain and ski guide, she also completed a five-year master's degree in sports, culture and event management at the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences . She wrote her diploma thesis on the subject of "Economic and social effects of the creative industries in the small-town Alpine region using the example of Lienz / East Tyrol". Since 2012 she has been responsible for Piolet d'Or communication in the German-speaking Alpine region. Since 2013 she has also been an external lecturer at the FH-Kufstein. In November 2013 she was a member of the jury at the 25th Mountain and Adventure Film Festival in Graz . In October 2014 she was appointed to train the Austrian mountain guide training.

She has been an all-round climber since 1997 and took part in competitions. Her greatest success was the 2nd place at the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup in Saas-Fee 2001. She is also the winner of numerous competitions in various disciplines such as the Lienz Bouldering Cup 2011, the Dolorock Climbing Festival 2013 and 2014 and the Free Solo Masters 2014.

Steurer lives with her partner and daughter in Lienz / East Tyrol.

Alpine ventures

In August 2009, Steurer and Ines Papert succeeded in the first ascent of the Power of Silence route (7c +, 11 pitches) through the south face of the Middle Huey Spire in Canada . It is only the second route through the heavily overhanging south face. In the following days they also climbed the Lotus Flower Tower in the onsight style over the southeast pillar (6b). In January 2012, Steurer and Papert became the first female rope team to successfully complete the difficult Illuminati mixed climbing route (M11 +, WI6 +) in Vallunga, Italy .

In May 2012 she and Christian Trommsdorff, Patrick Wagnon and Aymeric Clouet made the first ascent of Sarpo Laggo Peak ( 6150  m ) in Pakistan . The ascent took place over the Sarpo Laggo Pass and the southwest face. In April 2013, Steurer and Ines Papert and Patrik Aufdenblatten made the first ascent of the Azazar route (8a, 9 pitches) on the southwest face of the Tadrarate in Morocco .

In August 2014, Lisi Steurer and Ines Papert were able to carry out the first red point ascent of the route Without smoke you die too (8a, 17 pitches) on the north face of the Große Zinne in Italy. In December 2014 you and Felix Tschurtschenthaler made five first ascents in the Hajar Mountains of Oman , including Straight Up (VI +), Fantastica 2.0 (VI-) and Crux Line (VII).

For the documentary series Bergwelten by ServusTV , she climbed the Ushba South Summit ( 4737  m ) in Georgia in 2015 . With Path of Curiosity (500m, 9-) she was also able to open a new difficult route on the Einserkofel in the Dolomites with Markus Tschurtschenthaler and Hannes Pfeifhofer in summer 2015 .

In 2016 she was a participant in an expedition of the "Young Alpinists" to the Kookshal Too Valley in Kyrgyzstan , where she and Manuel Steiger and Alexander Blümel successfully climbed Pik Gronky ( 5080  m ) over the east pillar. In 2017, together with Hannes Pfeifhofer, she succeeded in opening the Hakuna Matata (400m, 8a) route on Taè, in the Ampezzo Dolomites near Cortina.

Events

Once a year, Lisi Steurer organizes the Alpine specialist forum Vertical Arena on behalf of the Sexten Tourist Association. In 2017, Hansjörg Auer, Nadine Wallner, Patrick Aufdenblatten, Simon Gietl and Nicola Tondini were guests and spoke about the topic “Quo Vadis Alpinism?”. In 2018 the topic of "masses on the mountain" was discussed. The speakers were the Everest Flash expedition organizer Lukas Furtenbach, Steve House, Ines Papert and Heinz Grill. In 2019 the motto of the event is "Legends of the 3 Peaks".

Lisi Steurer is a founding member of the Gamatzn climbing club , which organizes the Dolorock Climbing Festival in the Höhlensteintal near the Three Peaks. The event stands for openness, tolerance and critical examination of topics related to climbing and mountaineering. By being together, climbing, partying and discussing linguistic, cultural and geographical boundaries should be overcome.
