Ensembles
Old town Rieneck
The ensemble includes the place within its former walling including the former suburb. The city emerged in the second half of the 13th century at the foot of the castle of the Counts of Rieneck, which had been built since 1168 as an approximately regular, rectangular complex with a right-angled street system, in the center of which the town hall (in its late medieval appearance today) is located. The core of the city wall also belongs to the 13th century. The parish church, which was only built at the beginning of the 15th century, is located in the northeast square. After the residence of the Count's House was moved to Lohr , Rieneck lost its importance. This is probably the reason for the preservation of the city complex in its 13th century walling. After the Counts of Rieneck died out in 1559, the city fell back to the feudal lord, the Archbishop of Mainz , and became the seat of an Electoral Mainz office. In 1673 it was bought by the Counts of Nostiz and again made the city the residence of a county that was mediatized in 1807. During this time, the rows of houses on the street cross received their defining shape as closed alleyways with mostly eaves-side, two-storey half-timbered buildings that have remained unplastered several times. Arable bourgeois character with interspersed, partly stately half-timbered barns and extensive inner courtyards. Some of the aristocratic farm buildings can be seen in the barns on Schulgasse. The ensemble is severely disturbed by the demolition of the former office building and the subsequent former Lindentor. The western city moat with bridge - part of an ingenious system of moats that fed several mills and also included the town's medieval aqueduct, which can still be traced - separates the 18th century suburbs with stately arable houses along the wide main street from the more built-up area of the city center. Boundaries: Hauptstrasse 1 - the course of the city wall to Sinnberg 4 - Stadtgraben - Rotenbergstrasse 1 - Hauptstrasse 21, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 34, 36, 37 - Hauptstrasse 35, 33 - Läusberg 2, 1 - Hauptstrasse 27, 22 , 20, 19 - Stadtgraben - Haaggasse 5, 7a, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16 - Course of the remains of the city wall to the former Obertor - Obertorstraße 21, 20 - Area number 280 - Area number 423 - Area number 470 - Schloßberg 7 - Hauptstraße 2. File number: E-6-77-177-1.
City fortifications
The complex was probably built in the 13th century following the fortification of the city wall on an approximately rectangular floor plan with a moat in the southeast and taking advantage of the steep slope in the north. The former three gates and the towers have gone off. Remnants of the wall sections in the north-east between the former Sinn- to the former Lindentor and on the south side in the course of Haaggasse, trenches on the entire east and south fronts still carrying water are preserved. File number: D-6-77-177-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
