Amata Coleman Radewagen, the current delegate from American Samoa

American Samoa has been a non-incorporated territory of the United States since 1929 . The South Pacific archipelago was first represented in 1981 by a delegate in the United States House of Representatives ; the right to send a politician to Washington, DC had already been granted in October 1978, but there was no immediate election. With AU Fuimaono (1970–1974) and AP Lutali (1975–1977), there had already been unofficial delegates who had lobbied in Washington for the establishment of a congressional electoral district. Congress delegates only have voting rights in the committees , but not in the House of Representatives itself.
