List of US House of Representatives delegates from the Philippines
The Philippines was a territory of the United States from 1898 to 1946 . During this time, the former Spanish colony from 1907 placed delegates in the US House of Representatives , so-called Resident Commissioners ; The same is done today with Puerto Rico . From 1907 to 1936 the Philippines were represented by two delegates in Washington, DC , from 1936 until independence was achieved in 1946 by one. The Resident Commissioners were not elected by the people, but by the national parliament. Until 1916 the delegates were elected by the Philippine Assembly and the Philippine Commission . From 1917 to 1935 this was the Philippine Legislature , then the National Assembly .
