List of honorary citizens of Gera
The city of Gera has been an honorary citizen since the middle of the 19th century . Initially, these were purely personal rights, which expired with the death of the honored person.
By resolution of the city of Gera on October 30, 1946, the honorary citizenships awarded from 1933 to 1945 were canceled. On October 30, 1957, the city council passed a new regulation of honorary citizenship, which was retroactive from October 7, 1949 (the day the GDR was founded ). According to this regulation, which no longer contains any reference to the expiry of honorary citizenship after death, the city of Gera has so far made eleven people honorary citizens. In 2005, Heike Drechsler was the first woman to be granted this honorary citizenship.
