The list of area changes in the Ruhr area after 1976 contains important changes to the municipal areas in the Ruhr area in the period from January 1, 1977 until today. These include amalgamation and separation of parishes, incorporation of parishes into another, changes to the name of the parish and major reclassifications of parts of one parish to another.

Legend

  • Date : date of legal effect of the change of area
  • Municipality before the change : Municipality before the area change
  • Action : Type of change
  • Municipality after the change : Municipality after the area change
  • District : District of the municipality after the change of area

The sorting is done chronologically: date, independent cities, rural districts, receiving or newly formed municipality. Communities that still exist today are highlighted in color.
